PTO to Pulley
Anyone have any easy way to get tractor PTO to a pulley setup?
I haven't seen any premade stuff for this, but it obviously has to exist. |

Re: PTO to Pulley
Some links to start. Side loading of tractor rear PTO not recommended.
http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/sho...t=38139&page=2 Here is a 6 splined hub, then weld pully to hub: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp/...csCompareItems= did not look for the hubs with higher spline count. Surplus Center also has 6 spline hubs: https://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.a...56010421540093 |
Re: PTO to Pulley
Old John Deere Model "A"'s used to have a pulley system running along the side of the tractor....not directly off the pto, but it ran off of the ole hand clutch.

I guess it would be better to use a short PTO shaft and do the work from it. Still need to get the PTO to a pulley setup, but I am wondering if a mower PTO transmission would do the job. |
Re: PTO to Pulley
I've a pulley set up that drives a chipper/shredder off of my tractor's PTO. But it is driven from a driveshaft and the chipper has its own bearings. What are you trying to accomplish?
A great forum for tractor enthusiasts is Tractor by Net. There is a "build it your self" forum with lots of great builds and ideas. Check out http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/build-yourself/ |
Re: PTO to Pulley
when i was a kid we had a pully below the pto pully to run a syclebar mowing machine it was made to slip if you locked up the mower....so it had a set low tension on the belt thus low side loading
i tend to agree dont want to side load a pto any more than you have to to save bearings.. using a mower 90deg gear box would do the same thing.....side load the gear box instead of the pto itself......the mower gear box is used to a balenced load not a one sided load I would subjest you would need to build pto driven pully unit with its own dual carrier bearing supports or you at least want a dual bearing support on what ever shaft your side loading |
Re: PTO to Pulley
I have a power take off pulley made for an 8n ford tractor. Their are four bolts you remove from around the power take off. You slide the gear box on the power take off shaft then replace the bolts. We used to use it to run a buzz saw or a cement mixer.

if i were doing it i would build a trailer or a 3pt skid for the generator....then mount the correct pully sizes for your rpms on your trailer....then run a pto shaft back to the pullys on the trailer... that way you wouldnt have to screw with the setup once you got it right...you could just unhook and hook up your tractor just like you do any other implement very similar to a pto generator just replace the gearbox with a pully rack im sure you have checked but double check that 1800rpms......almost all small gennys are 3600rpms |
Re: PTO to Pulley
I built my own several years ago, the Generator Head needed to run at 3600 RPM,
(meant for a gas engine) I ran the PTO to 7:1 gear box and and connected the generator head to the gearbox with a spider coupler. Getting the exact speed at the PTO is a little tricky. I looked into implementing a Hertz meter inline to insure the correct speed as long, as I am at 60 Hertz I should be good. |
Re: PTO to Pulley
Do you have a specific pulley type in mind or would you want to run the stock 4 inch or so wide belt type pulley ?
You might find something like I have pictyured below at the links here. http://yesterdaystractors.com/ http://www.ntractorclub.com/ More pics from where the below pics came from at this link. http://t137.com/ClintDixon/rearpto.htm The pulley for my 1944 2N looks something like this. http://t137.com/ClintDixon/BeltPulle...gonPulleys.jpg http://t137.com/ClintDixon/BeltPulle...ey-ManPage.jpg |
